    Fatigue analyisis

I acknowledge your point and understand. only the fatigue life if affected by residual stresses from the cold working of the hole during riveting. These are the forces i am trying to include but cannot find the literature explaining how to incorporate them succesfully.

    Fatigue analyisis

Thanks for your reply, I am applying an alternating stress to the end of the specimen by the form of a max and a min pressure. The residual stress needs to remain on the speciment throughout testing so i was applying it in an earlier LS file and leaving it on the file for the other loads. How...

    Fatigue analyisis

Hello, I am trying to conduct a fatigue analysis of two riveted plates with inputted residual stresses. to do this i am applying pressures to the outside area of the rivet to simulate the residual stresses and writing it to an inital LS file. Next i've applied the maximum load and written it to...

including initial stresses throughout a transient analysis

Hi, I'm trying to imitate residual stress around a rivet hole by simply applying a pressure to the elements around the hole and then conducting a transient analysis. i have tried following the Ansys help files by applying the residual stresses and writing it as the first LS file with a minimal...

applying a circular pressure onto odd shaped elements

Thanks for the reply Conrad, I have actually created the model in Ansys though so cannot alter it in a design package as you mentioned. I have also tried creating circular volumes within the plates and adding them using a Booleans operation, in the hope it would allow me to apply a pressure to...

applying a circular pressure onto odd shaped elements

Hi, I've got a meshed plate with a hole in it that i need to apply pressures to, to simulate residual stresses created when the hole was made. im advised a good way of doing this is to apply a circular pressure around the hole on the top and bottom of the plate. However, the pressure needs to...

    Joining volumes without booleans

Thanks very much for your help.

    Joining volumes without booleans

Hello, I've been asked to join two plates with a solid rivet (simulated by a slug of material). I understand that applying a Booleans operation can alter the properties of the model and am told i can model the connection by simply using the meshtool to give the lines around the holes in the...

    CONTA and TARGE elements

Thanks for that Alex, it helped a lot.

    CONTA and TARGE elements

Hello I've created two overlapping plates and inseretd a solid cylinder to model a rivet connection. When i mesh the plates with a structural solid element it explains that the model is unconstrained. I've done some reading of TARGE and CONTA elements but cannot see how to implement them into...

    Fatigue analysis of riveted plates

Hi, Im a bit of a novice of ansys and am trying to run a fatigue analysis of two thin plates connected by a rivet. I have a meshed model but am unsure which parts i need to fill in under the 'calulate fatigue' tab to get it to work. When i try the number of cycles till destruction comes out...
