Would you sign off on this detail?

I must be missing something but I do not see where the space has been deepened much??? Where is the original footing?

Retaining wall at property line with narrow clearance

Does the adjacent home have a basment wall with footings deep enough to allow for excavation of soil to provide a safe working area?

Alkalai-Silica Reactivity - Concrete Slab on Grade "Contact with Moist Ground"

Does using a vapor vapor under concrete slab negate the AASHTO/ASTM requirements to evaluate aggregates for alkalai-silica reactivity? I am considering a situation in which the ground is or could be occasionally moist, not a location with obvious surface water or occasional ponding, ect.. Just...

Do you have any photos of the site and mentioned "deck"?

Aggregate Gradation - Out of Specification Price Adjustment

Is anyone aware of any standard procedurers or practices that may be available or comonly used for adjusting payment for out of specification aggregates? We are currently wrapping up a DOT/FAA project in which we had several QA samples of aggregate Subbase and Surface Course with out of spec...

    Consultation on compaction.

Is density testing required? Hopefully not.

    Consultation on compaction.

I would think in this scenario compacting dry would be sufficient. Likely just specified in effort to prevent bridging and or minimize future settling. I imagine you are already working on this but the big question is how to get the sand completely dry and how this will be defined.

    Retaining Wall Design Sanity Check

If this is a cantilevered wall(unrestrained at top) shouldn't the wall rebar be on the fill side(tension)?

    Concrete Aggregates: Crushed vs Natural(Rounded)

Thanks for the replies. I am surprised I did not get more response from this post. Many times in AK I have heard it stated that crushed agregates would not work for concrete, seemed like ability to finish was one of the concerns. I always find it odd, in Missouri we use crushed coarse...

    Concrete Aggregates: Crushed vs Natural(Rounded)

I am interested in others experiences, thoughts, knowledge, ect. concerning concrete aggregates, specifically crushed vs. non-crushed. When I lived in midwest US it was comon to use crushed products in concrete. I am now in Alaska where it is much more common to use alluvial aggregates for...

Polystyrene Aggregate as Drain Rock Substitute

The below from Infiltrator Water Technologies is what I am referencing. I was also wondering if there might be something similar that is heavier than water. https://www.infiltratorwater.com/products/ezflow-drainage-systems/ Or, maybe an expanded foam that is permeable and manufactured onsite...

    Reinforcing existing timber beam

If needed I would consider extending the upper portion of the reinforcing steel over the existing end suports in effort to gain adequate shear strength without removing part of the existing wall. If necessary the steel over the supports could be "beefed up" to provide additional shear strength.

Polystyrene Aggregate as Drain Rock Substitute

LittleInch, I am loking for something similar to the packaging "peanuts" but more durable and heavier. I thoiught maybe something existed out there these days that could be used as a drain rock or filter media for backfilling walls or used in onsite wastewater trenches. It does not have to be...

Polystyrene Aggregate as Drain Rock Substitute

This is a detail of the particular fill situation we are currently working with. This situation appears it might have potential for a lightweight material to work as far as buoyancy. I have also been wondering if there are other materials that might be heavier and not buoyant that could be used...

Polystyrene Aggregate as Drain Rock Substitute

I was wondering about just using the polystyrene chips, not concrete. Thanks
