Bevel gear box in steering line

Hi, This is about a bevel gear box situated between the steering column and power steering gear. (to convert the vertical axis of rotn of steering wheel to a horizontal axis of the power steering gear in a bus) Wanted to know the critical aspects of this component. If one were to test and...

    Cracks in wheel disc

Thanks for the insight friends. May I know: 1. What causes excessive cornering fatigue on the wheels. 2. Details of the CFT test. 3. What are the effects of torsion caused due to sudden acceleration & braking on the wheel. 4. Effects of tire wear & ply pattern on the wheel. We notice...

    shift in spring leaf

Thanks Greg Locock, Could the deviation on the camber on the leaves cause this ?. My thinking is that if the camber of a particular leaf is less than the spec, the preload between the leaves could be lower causing the leaf to slip in service. Thanks.

    Weld Porosity

To be more specific on the porosity issue, the part concerned is a fuel tank. When the tank is inspected after fabrication no defects are visible. It is only after the tank is shot blasted for painting do the porosity become visible. The slag ( I suppose !) covers the pores prior to shot...

    Cracks in wheel disc

Thanks very much. To clarify your questions, this is a failue during running ( for say 6 months or 50000 km.) and not during the test. Infact the wheels pass the tests with a very large margin. Thanks

    Weld Porosity

Hi, I needed help on understanding weld porosity. What are the probable reasons for porosity to occur during MIG welding cold rolled sheets (2 mm thk). Just to rule out the possibility of moisture, this problem creeps up even when the ambient temp during welding is as high as 35 deg C and...

    shift in spring leaf

I am writing about leaf springs on the front axle of trucks. I see that after a short run (unladen also !!) the second leaf from the top shifts to the side by approx 10 mm. this causes it to hit the shackle. I find the U bolt torque to be OK. I need help to understand if this is normal. what...

    Cracks in wheel disc

Could some one tell me the causes for cracks to develop at the ventillation holes of a truck wheel disc. Could this be due to overloading of the wheel. The cracks start at the vent hole and extend towards the weld between the disc and rim. Thanx in advance.
