Thanks Flexibox, they are a royal PITA! And the logic for using them in this aplication is flawed. The Compressor end-cover seals are static therefore a bit of explosive decompression will not cause hang up problems. I can see why they would be used in a shaft seal arrangement that has to...
Hi,
Has anyone got some tips for fitting the Spring-held PTFE cup-seals?
We heat them, in hot water to 100degC and pray. Previously we have used hot oil at 120degC and in a big oven to 180degC, at 180degC they didn't shrink back.
Any feedback would be great.
Thanks

System DP will remain 'unchanged' The purpose of the mods is to increase flow - to 'as much as we can get' (without major mods)
The current motor is 3.6kW (4.8hp) and we run a 60Hz system
Thanks

Thanks Scotty,
It is a quite a small pd pump and we have confirmed that the piping is OK and that we will still have enough NPSH on the pump, and it was the pump OEM that suggested the motor change.
As for rating, does the rule for Centrif/Axial Pumps (BHP2=BHP1x(N2/N1)3)[That should be to...
We have a pump drive that is currently a 6 pole motor, to increase pump capacity it has been suggested that we change to a 4 pole motor(1200 -> 1800 rpm).
Is it really that simple?
What increase in current (starting and full load) can we expect?
Will the motor be the same frame size?
Thanks...
Thanks Rotator, Permalign checks were on the list. What we have done is trim balance the coupling (very small amounts 0.6g) and we now have a machine that is showing maximum 25 microns and shows little sensitivity to time/temp.

Bearing clearance is (design) 0.15mm - 0.179mm and as the machine is new, I expect it to be at the lower end. The shaft centreline runs down in a similar manner to the run up.

Only the Service Hand who was onsite, made the comment that because we re-aligned the machine (moved it 0.1mm, as that is what they blamed originally for the vibration. NB: When out-of-alignment (cold) by 0.1mm the pipework was 'floating' at the nozzle) with the piping done up, he thought the...
Hi,
I have also posted this in the Acoustic & Vibration Engineering Forum.
We are trying to commission a new motor-gear-centrif, gas compression train. We have an issue with the vibration levels at the Compressor Drive End. As the machine runs up to speed (16,000 rpm driven) the shaft...

Thanks, I am aware of the big-boys in the coupling world, but they tend to have longer lead times. I made contact with the guys on my previous project. They have never used the couopling that was bought from FlexElement so I have no feedback.

Hi,
We have just discovered a crack in the windage shroud in a 40MW 4000rpm coupling (turbine-gear) As always the OEM has quoted some 20 weeks delivery. In a previous job, circa 2003 I bought a 'copy' coupling from a firm in the USA on a much shorter turn time but it carried a hefty price tag...
Most Pipeline Booster Stations in the UK are single stage machines, I can't think of any that have after-coolers.
The most efficient machines are the axial inlet type; Dresser-Rand Pdi and Rolls Royce RFA.
I would suggest that every cetrifugal compressor requires an Anti-Surge system. If...
