    Tungsten carbide and tin solder

@ tomwalz That's a good one.... Sounds like a mechanically resistant material with a crystalline structure (the reason I chose it) - also the corresponding low thermal-expansion coefficient, this is why together with molybdenum it is used with quartz... It shatters rather than bend. Youtube...

    Tungsten carbide and tin solder

I found a chapter of some guide about working Tungsten carbide (attached). See page 33 "low temperature soldering" do you think that might work on a ring... ? (Eng. Applied Physics)http://files.engineering.com/getfile.aspx?folder=47f61754-b6f1-485d-8fc5-f87745c8dae0&file=Tungsten_carbide_ch4.pdf

    Tungsten carbide and tin solder

Thanks all :) The only gear I have in my lab is a simple soldering tool, silver melting temp is around 960 C, which is way too high for it... I noticed that the electronic-shell configuration of silver is very different to that of tin - so I wonder if the 2 metals, the tin and the tungsten...

    Tungsten carbide and tin solder

Hi all, I bought a Tungsten-carbide ring which has turned out to be too large... I thought of making the inner diameter of the ring smaller by soldering some tin in a thin layer onto the inside of the Tungsten-carbide ring. I know Tungsten carbide would not melt anywhere near the melting temp...

    Lamp-house manufacturers ?

Hi Ninja182, Thanks for your response. I am looking for someone who can build a casing to (my) CAD and yes - polishing and anodizing reflectors - getting harder and harder to find in the EU - I need that too. This job in not for a once-off, but longer term, since we design new product on a...

    Lamp-house manufacturers ?

Dear all, I'm looking for a tool-shop in the EU that can make lamp-houses and reflectors, both prototyping and small-series. Thanks :) (Eng. Applied Physics)

    Starting up Field Service

Oh and another thing..... When I registered here I selected (Electrical) for my field - because my real field (Applied Physics) was not available. Now even when I go back to my "Personal profile" I'm unable to change this selection, it appears nowhere. How do I change it ? An off-topic...

    Starting up Field Service

Hi greg, my other option is to have the system sent back to me, since the original adapter from Japan is not even sold in the EU, I still have to buy something local (standard product which I can buy at the HW store), I test briefly and ship back to the customer, I charge them some x3 the...

    Starting up Field Service

tygerdawg : LOFL at that "sending a warm body to a problem" description... Custom-made parts are a different story - then the customer pays for engineering not only standard parts. ya I guess I might be a bit of an idealist there - an approach I'm quite certain will not be reciprocated by most...

    Starting up Field Service

MikeHalloran : Right about the documentation, generally engineers hate writing reports, but it is a necessity. My previous company won a claim from a supplier who screwed up due to documentation and emails I kept, this taught me never to delete anything. msquared48 : I used to do FS in...

    Starting up Field Service

Thank you all. Let me take it from the top : MiketheEngineer : Honesty and clarity are indeed the best policy IMO - I intend to pursue that. tygerdawg : 1. I want them to repair simple parts by themselves - replacing a power-adapter with a standard connector should not be a problem for an...

    Starting up Field Service

Hi all, The company I work for recently started selling complete systems rather than just loose components. As a product manager it is now my job to set up service policies and plan a future service department. Naturally I find the challenge very exciting - because my first job was in field...
