    AnchorMat

I was involved in a project using the platipus anchors as part of a surface stabiliztion. There was some discrepency as to the strength of the cable. We were running load test and had the cables snap. If I recall you can have different cables attached to the heads. I am not quite sure if the...

    Dynamic Probing

I have been working with the DCP developed by the army specified in NAVFAC MO 330 FM5-472. This has a smaller tip about 3/4". It was developed to measure CBR for airfield. We bought it from Durham Geo a few years ago. Any one else have experience with this DCP good or bad

    Concrete slab craking

I read a lot of post discussing cracking in floors during the curing period. Anyone have a short list of items/procedures which should be followed as the floors are poured, finished, joints installed, cured to prevent cracking. An Inspectors Checklist.

    Pile Failure Determined

True failure is when pile deflection occurs with no increas in load. During load testing the Davison Method is often used stating failure is the point which pile deflection is (.15 +.008xdia) inches more than the elastic movement of the pile. Saying that I have called failure if the total...

    PDA testing

Yes the computed capacity is sensitive to the inputed wave speed. When we were testing we measured the wave speed knowing the pile length and time and adjusted the measured speed for subsequent tests. Sorry I cant recall if a faster wave speed gave a more or less conservative capacity

    Control joints

I have seen 2 ways of installing control joints in a slab 1) pour, finish, let setup and cut the joints with a saw 2) pour, and as they are finishing the surface they cut in a grove with a trowel Does it make any difference

    **Footing for Economic Design Needed**

you can use the sheet pile wall method described by Das Its acceptable to use 2-3 times the shaft diameter when determining the passive resistance when using piers instead of a continous sheet.

    Trucking Ramp

Not sure on trucks, But I was just dealing with this issue for a tracked crane and the answer was 1V:7H

    Hardpan

Funny I ran across this thread. Last week in our office this toppic came up. Two theories came out. 1) Hardpan - hard soil on the surface which was compacted by pans (earth moving equipment) 2) Hardpan - a gold miners term for the hard material at the bottom of a stream wich is hard to dig...

    Telltale in Pile load test

Just wondering what peoples thoughts were on including telltales in a pile load test. I am planning to test 12 inch dia 60' deep auger cast piles to failure (ultimate design 160 kips). I was planning to in stall 2 telltales on mid depth and the other 3 feet from the bottom. Any lesson learned...

Carbon Fiber Fabric Basement Wall Reinforcement

I was considering using the carbon fiber for a basment block wall repair. Any suggestions on evaluating the axial capacity of a wall that has a buldge at mid hieight with the addition of the carbon fiber on the inside

    Foam Concrete Emankments

We are using foam concrete for some embankments and behind bridge abutments in Maryland. No real design method. Just seleting the grade concrete to get a unit weight and compressive strength. I think we are using 40 pcf 120 psi. Its is one up from the lightest Elastizel produces. But for...

    rock excavation

I havent heard of a milling machine on a backhoe. Is that applicalbe for hard rock 6,000psi + We looked into a large trencher which was used in the coal minds, but the mobalization is rather high. As for the expansive cements. What brand did you uses and how close did you have to put the holes?

    rock excavation

Does anyone have any expirience using one of these expanding liquid mixtures such as The Cracker from u.S. Anchor Corp. or Bristar from Demolition Technologies Inc. I have a pipeline project were we have encountered hard rock, but blasting is not allowed due do some old pipe adjacent to the...

    slope analysis methods

I have been using PCSTABLE6 to determine the stability of a clay slope. The slope is totally submerged under 45 feet of water. I would like to understand in more depth how the program is determining the stability to make sure I am analyzing the stability in the best manner. I was using the...
